Associate of Science in Business Administration

Learn the basics of business.

The Associate of Science (A.S.) in Business Administration prepares students for entry level positions in business, government, and non-profit organizations. Several of our undergraduate students earn their Associates while working towards a bachelor degree in business.

Associate In Business Administration Program Learning Outcomes

The Associate In Business Administration has the following Program Learning Outcomes:

  1. Analyze, interpret, and synthesize data to make business related decisions.
  2. Synthesize information from applicable disciplines into business documents.
  3. Exhibit effective oral and written communication skills related to business activities

Business Administration Core Requirements (24 Credit Hours)

Fundamental concepts and terminology in the field of business administration; covers areas such as management, marketing, accounting, personnel, and finance. Not acceptable for major credits for Business or Accounting majors. (NMCCN BUSA 1113). (3)

The theory of national income accounting and aggregate income determination in the American economy; monetary theory; functioning of financial institutions, monetary and fiscal policy; and international trade and payments. (NMCCN ECON 2113)(Area IV). (3)

Theory of markets: supply and demand, consumption and production, competition and monopoly, resources, equity, and efficiency. (NMCCN ECON 2123)(Area IV). (3)

An introduction to financial accounting concepts emphasizing the analysis of business transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), the effect of these transactions on the financial statements, financial analysis, and the interrelationships of the financial statements. (NMCCN ACCT 2113). (3)

An introduction to the use of accounting information in the management decision making processes of planning, implementing, and controlling business activities. In addition, the course will discuss the accumulation and classification of costs as well as demonstrate the difference between costing systems. (NMCCN ACCT 2123). (3)

Survey of the legal environment of business and common legal principles including: the sources of law, dispute 253 Revised 7/14/2021 resolution and the U.S. court systems, administrative law, tort law, contract law, agency and employment law, business structure and governance, ethics and corporate social responsibility. Explores sources of liability and presents strategies to minimize legal risk. Prerequisite: ENGL 1120. (NMCCN BLAW 2113). (3)

Survey of modern marketing concepts and practices focusing on the marketing mix: product, pricing, promotion, and distribution strategies. Topics include; the marketing environment, consumer behavior, marketing research, target marketing, and the ethical and social responsibilities of marketers. Prerequisite: ENGL 1120. (NMCCN MKTG 2113). (3)

An introduction to the basic theory of management including the functions of planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling; while considering management’s ethical and social responsibilities. Prerequisite: ENGL 1120. (NMCCN MGMT 2113). (3)
